Alex Meyer will continue between the posts as the Borussia Dortmund No. 2 going forward. The 32-year-old has prematurely extended his contract with the eight-time German champions until 30 June 2025.

“Alex is much more than a second goalkeeper. Whenever he has been needed, he has proven his capabilities at an extraordinarily high level. He’s an absolute team player, a great footballer and a very reliable professional with life experience who conveys calmness and confidence to the team,” said BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

The 1.95-metre-tall Meyer, who boasts experience from 135 second-tier appearances, played seven Bundesliga matches for BVB last season.

Meyer declared: “I’m delighted about BVB’s trust in me and the contract extension that comes with it. I’ve been given a super welcome by everyone since day one in Dortmund and immediately felt comfortable. Everyone could see last season what is possible with this club. I will play my part to ensure that we enjoy success and win titles in the near future. I’m very happy to remain part of the BVB family.”
