The Borussia Dortmund U23s commenced their preparations for the coming season on Wednesday morning. 10 new signings were among the group at the training ground in Dortmund-Brackel.
“Everyone is fit and feeling good. That was a positive first impression,” said head coach Jan Zimmermann of the one-hour session that got training back under way. After yesterday’s performance tests, the team took to the pitch for the first time today in order to commence preparations for the coming campaign in the 3. Liga.
Following a brief warm-up, the squad split up into two groups for various passing drills. The focal point was getting used to being on the ball and the pitch once again. The session was rounded off on small pitches with lots of touches of the ball in close confines and shots at small goals. “We all worked well during the break, meaning that we were already able to complete a good and intensive session today,” Zimmermann said.
Except for Justin Butler, who joined BVB from FC Ingolstadt and is initially training individually due to a minor injury, the U23s’ new signings Ayman Azhil (Bayer Leverkusen) Patrick Göbel (FSV Zwickau), Felix Irorere (Karlsruher SC), Franz Roggow (FC St. Pauli), Paul Besong (1.FC Nürnberg), Tiago Estevao (SV Rödinghausen), Samuel Bamba (U19s), Hendry Blank (U19s), Marian Kirsch (U19s) and Nnamdi Collins (U19s) completed the entire session on the training pitch.
First-team players Mateu Morey and Julien Duranville also took part, while Julian Rijkhoff (U19s) trained with the team too.
