SVW gained a lot of confidence following their 2-0 victory over 1. FC Union Berlin last weekend. The Green-Whites belief in the value of hard work remained strong, despite facing many setbacks. “We needed this win, and it feels different going into training now on the back of it,” shared Friedl. “We have to continue to grow and work meticulously, as there are still things that we can improve on. It’s down to us to work together as a team in order to be successful at the weekend.”
The Green-Whites already had a lot of conversations with each other during the international break. The Austrian and the team council also discussed with the coaching staff what they could change and then put into place in training and during matches. “A main focal point of this was the defensive performances and how we could cover for each other – that’s been better in the last two weeks,” said the 25-year-old. “But we always have to stay at an equally high level and, even when there are setbacks, assess how we can improve further.”
Although SVW remain pointless away from home, the Kirchbichl-born defender is optimistic for the upcoming game. “There’s no particular reason why we still haven’t got anything away from home,” said Friedl. “Our support is incredible – no matter how we play.”

According to the five-time international, Werder will have to build on their recent performances to overcome VfL Wolfsburg. “They are a team who do a lot of running, are strong in individual battles and are well-drilled. But we also know that something’s possible for us if we dominate the individual battles like we have recently and trust ourselves on the ball.”
