The Borussia Dortmund women’s footballers have prematurely become champions of Frauen-Bezirksliga Pool 4 thanks to a 15 (7-0) victory over Wambeler SV. They produced a masterclass in front of 1,234 spectators at Stadion Rote Erde to seal promotion to the Landesliga with six matchdays remaining.

When the final whistle sounded at Stadion Rote Erde at 16:45 CET, the celebrations knew no bounds. “Only BVB are Bezirksliga champions,” rang out around the ground. After clinching their biggest win of the season, the team and supporters were in exuberant mood as they celebrated their second title in a row.

The Black & Yellows were brimming with enthusiasm on their long-awaited return to Stadion Rote Erde after 532 days. The ball was already in the back of the net within 99 seconds, after Mia Macarena Bedarf had struck the crossbar and Vanessa Kuhl had volleyed home the rebound to make it 1-0.

Sulewski’s charges totally overran Wambel and upped their lead to 3-0 in the opening quarter of an hour thanks to goals from Marie Grothe (8) and another from Kuhl (11). After a brief lull, Grothe then exploded into form and scored a hat-trick between the 25th and 39th minutes. Bedarf then scored after nice build-up play from Virginia Glänzer (40) to make it a 7-0 lead heading into the break. “It is really special to play in front of so many people in this setting,” said Grothe, who was making her debut at Stadion Rote Erde.

The same applied to Mandy Reinhardt, who followed in the footsteps of team-mate Grothe in the second half and also notched a hat-trick in the space of only seven minutes (53, 56, 60). “It was breathtaking and even better than I had imagined it would be,” said Reinhardt of their debut at the historic ground. Spurred on by a fantastic crowd, the BVB women played themselves into a frenzy. Substitutes Ana Louisa Haslsteiner and Lea Rogge-Herper both added their names to the scoresheet with a brace apiece between the 60th and 75th minutes. “This win, this promotion, this crowd – simply goosebumps,” said Rogge-Herper, who was celebrating her second league title with BVB.

It was Haslsteiner who rounded off the scoring at 15-0 with a header that completed her hat-trick in the 87th minute. By this point, the players on the substitutes’ bench were already decked out in promotion t-shirts and Wambel coach Marcel Brüning was already congratulating them. Seconds later, the champagne was in full flow. “The girls played a super game and I’m very proud. Securing promotion to the Landesliga on our return to the Rote Erde is simply a cool story,” said title-winning coach Thomas Sulewski.
