1. FC Union Berlin will host Polish second-tier side Widzew Lodz at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei on Wednesday at 16:00.
Urs Fischer’s side were originally planned to take on Erzgebirge Aue, but the 2.Bundesliga side cancelled due to personnel issues.
Widzew Lodz – Opposition Report:
Widzew Lodz were a force in Polish football back in the 1980s. They won the Polish league championship in 1981 and 1982. Their success continued into European competition where Widzew Lodz reached the semi-finals of the European Cup in 1983. They enjoyed success in the 1990s again, but would fall on difficult times soon after. Widzew Lodz had their licence revoked in 2015/16 and went down to the fifth tier.
But they are fighting to return to the Ekstraklasa, the top division of Polish football. As things stand, they are second.

The 2G-Plus rules continue to apply for stadium visitors. Ticket holders who have been vaccinated and recovered from CoVID must also present a negative daily antigen rapid test or a PCR test (48h validity). Exempt from this are people with a booster vaccination. In addition, it is compulsory to wear an FFP2 mask, which may be removed at the site.
Tickets for the match can be purchased online at the Union Zeughaus in the members’ sale until kick-off, children under 12 years of age enjoy free entry but require a ticket.
