1. FC Nürnberg won the first German cup in 1935, then known as the Tschammer-Pokal. The first edition as the DFB-Pokal took place in 1953, won by Rot-Weiss Essen, who had Helmut Rahn in their side, the man to score the winning goal in the 1954 World Cup final.

FC Schalke 04 were the first side to win the domestic double. They remained the only club to achieve this feat until FC Bayern in 1969.

Dresdner SC, coached by Helmut Schön, were the first club to defend their title in 1941. Karlsruher SC in 1956were the first side to do it once the competition became the DFB-Pokal. Can we defend our title this Saturday?
