“Sebastian is an extremely worthy player who has been outstanding on both a sporting and a human level in all his years at TSG Hoffenheim,” said Alexander Rosen, adding: “Sippi developed into an international at TSG and has always assumed responsibility as a leading player – on and off the pitch. Despite such a successful career in sporting terms, he has remained grounded and put himself at the team’s service at all times. Even last season, which was difficult from a sporting point of view, we could always rely on him – he was always there when he was needed. His word always carried weight in the dressing room and there is probably nobody at the club who doesn’t like him. That’s one of the reasons why we’ve already held initial discussions with him about a possible future at TSG after his playing career. Because the doors at Hoffenheim will always be open to such an extremely positive person,” continued Rosen, who regrets “that Sippi was not able to bid a proper farewell to the TSG supporters due to the difficult and tense sporting situation last season”. Rosen therefore emphasised: “Amends will be made for this as soon as possible. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank him for his many years of commitment to TSG and wish him all the best for his footballing future.”

At the start of the evening, which was presented by the former long-serving BVB press officer Josef Schneck, Jan van Leeuwen from the board of the Fan and Facilitation Department explained how the pre-match fan choreography had come about. The choreo had taken up the whole South Stand and remains – along with its caption “Auf der Suche nach dem verlorenen Henkelpott” (On the hunt for the lost Champions League trophy) – etched into the minds of many Black & Yellow fans today. In addition, there was insight into how carefully such a choreography needs to be planned. If you look closely, you can see that the Champions League trophy in the middle of the South Stand consisted of a number of pieces of black card that had to be held up in the right position. This created an impressive backdrop before the match had even begun.

Central defender, Dominik Becker, has permanently signed for 1. FC Saarbrücken and won’t return to Werder Bremen. The 23-year-old has recently spent a period on loan at the 3. Liga side and it was confirmed on Monday that the move will be made permanent.
According to manager Julian Nagelsmann, the squad is finally reaching the point where just about everyone is ready to go. The coach covered all of the latest injury news in his weekly press conference.
“We came to know and appreciate Florian as a fantastic goalkeeper and as a great person during his time with us,” explained sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “Flo has a very good sporting base and he still has the potential for improvement. That is a great combination. We are delighted that he will complete our goalkeeping trio with his qualities. We have clear internal agreements and it’s a good feeling that we are going into the start of this long season with lots of competitions with the strong goalkeeping team of Benjamin Uphoff, Noah Atubolu and Florian Müller.”
When Dennis Geiger put on the TSG Hoffenheim jersey for the first time in 2009, nobody would have probably expected him to play for the Kraichgau club for 14 years. With the midfielder’s contract set to run out in the summer, it looked as though his time in Hoffenheim would come to an end. But Geiger extended his contract, rejecting other offers in the process. “At 24, I’m at the peak age for a footballer and could have moved on a free transfer after an almost injury-free season. That does of course appeal, it would have been the moment to do something different. I gave it a lot of thought; on some days, I even fretted about it. In the end, I had to choose between two different offers and it also wasn’t easy for me, but I listened to my heart and chose Hoffenheim out of conviction. A few weeks later, I can say that it was the right choice.”
