The left-footer received his footballing education at Energie Cottbus and caught the eye of BVB’s scouts as early as U14 level. Since 2018, the Brandenburg native has played for FC St. Pauli. This season, he appeared in the matchday squad of the second-tier outfit four times in the Bundesliga 2 and made 23 appearances in the Regionalliga Nord for the Hamburg club’s U23s. “We have been watching Franz for a few years now and are happy that we have now been able to sign him. He will add a lot of drive and creativity to our play,” said Preuss.
