Yup, there is A LOT to talk about with Bayern Munich, so let’s dive right into it. This is what we have on tap for this episode:
David Raum, Xavi, Yussuf Poulsen and Sporting Director Rouven Schröder give their thoughts after the 4-1 win in Bochum
What Sebastian Hoeneß, Josha Vagnoman and Serhou Guirassy had to say after the 3-2 win away at Wolfsburg.
Pafos FC: Ivusic – Ikoko (65. Dall’igna), Kvida (80. Michael), Name, Murillo (80. Constantinou), Tavares – Kane (74. Abdusalamov), Pelagio (65. Demetriou), Valakari (80. Moreira) – Tankovic (59. Oliveira), Papastylianou (59. Felipe)
VfL Wolfsburg failed to pick up points on Matchday 24, with head coach Niko Kovac’s men losing 3-2 at home to VfB Stuttgart on Saturday evening. Joakim Maehle (50’) and Lukas Nmecha (83’) were on the mark for the Green-and-Whites, but that was not enough to cancel out a double from Serhou Guirassy (14’/54’ pen.) and another from Josha Vagnoman (77’), in front of a capacity crowd of 28,917 fans at the Volkswagen Arena.
“I will take the blame for the fact that we lost by so much because I told them to risk everything in the second half,” said U19s head coach Mike Tullberg. From the beginning, everything went against the Borussians, who had started the season so well. Melvin Onos scored a free kick to make it 1-0 while the Black and Yellows were still arguing with a decision the referee had made. BVB keeper Marlon Zacharias did not cover himself in glory when Max Moerstedt – a member of Germany’s U17 European Championship winning side – made it 2-0, and shortly before the half-time break, Moerstedt punished another slip in the Dortmund defence to make it 3-0.
Rafael Borré has been left out of SV Werder Bremen’s squad ahead of their trip to face TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Sunday, 3rd March. The Colombian striker is on the verge of completing a move to Brazilian side Internacional.
Finn Dahmen: “I’ve never experienced anything like that before in the Bundesliga. We did an extremely good job, were clinical in front of goal and were enjoying ourselves on the pitch. Darmstadt were unlucky, also because we forced them into making errors in their build-up play. That played right into our hands. All of a sudden, it was 5-0 and we had just one goal for the second half: to keep a clean sheet. Thank God we managed to achieve that too, and overall it was a great performance.”
Phillip Tietz: “I only have good memories from my time at Darmstadt, so I was feeling emotional even before kick off. I owe the club a lot, which is why it wouldn’t have been right to celebrate after my goals. I’m extremely happy about the three points and our incredible performance, in a statement win for us. It’s good for us to take it week by week – we’ll celebrate this win today and enjoy tomorrow as well, but then we’ll direct our focus to Heidenheim. We want to give our fans reason to celebrate once again.”
Ermedin Demirović: “It was an extremely good performance from us. We started well into the match, pressed hard and were clinical enough to score many goals in the first half. I’ve been asked a lot about the goalscoring record – I just feel really good at the moment and that makes it possible to achieve something like this. We wanted to prove that Augsburg can play good football and that we’re an attractive club to watch. Augsburg can do better than just finish in 15th.”
Jess Thorup (FC Augsburg head coach): “After a strong performance against Freiburg, we really wanted to make it back-to-back wins. We put our opponents under pressure right from the start, played great football and scored some nice goals. Our biggest away win in our Bundesliga history, Demi’s goalscoring record and Finn’s first clean sheet – I’m very happy about all of that. At half time we spoke about wanting to continue to attack and to come out on top in the second half as well. Congratulations to the team on this fully-deserved win.”
Torsten Lieberknecht (SV Darmstadt 98 head coach): “Everyone saw the course this game took. The first minutes proved that mistakes lead to goals. It’s telling that we had a chance to make it 1-1 but couldn’t capitalise on it. I’m the first to take the blame and take up responsibility, that’s always been my way as a coach. I will take the time to draw the right conclusions from this game – the important thing was that we ended the second half with the right mindset and that we didn’t let ourselves break down even more than we already had.”
In a report from Az’s Maximilian Koch, Neuer’s recovery from a broken leg is said to be proceeding on schedule:
“Tim is a great defender with incredible potential. He has recently repeatedly attracted attention thanks to his strong performances for the Regionalliga team, even though he could still be playing for the U19s, having only been born in 2005. Tim is not only catching the eye with his serene playing style, but also with his impressive speed,” said Pirmin Schwegler, head of professional football at TSG, about the defender born in Bruchsal, who was called up to the first team squad for the first time for the match in Dortmund last time out. “We now want to introduce Tim into the first team gradually and with the appropriate care. In the second half of this season, he will continue to collect match practice with the U23s that is indispensable at his age. However, at the same time, he will also regularly train with the first team – with the clear goal of fully integrating him into the Bundesliga squad by the summer at the latest.”
