Born in Witten near Bochum, Vogt took his first tentative steps towards a career in football at the age of three. First at VfB Langendreerholz, then at WSV Bochum and finally, from the summer of 2004, in the youth section of the VfL Bochum. The right-footed Vogt played successfully through all age groups there, making his debut in the Bundesliga at the tail end of the 2008/09 season as a 17-year-old. In the following 2009/10 season, Vogt shuttled back and forth between the U19s and Bochum’s second team as he continued to gain ever more vital match practice and experience. It was all that hard work that helped him a year later in the 2. Bundesliga, where he developed into an important pillar in Friedhelm Funkel’s team from the second half of the season.

The Bavarians eked out a 2-0 home win over basement boys Hertha Berlin in a game that puts them first once again in the league standings. Serge Gnabry’s diving header on 69 minutes (nice) and Kingsley Coman’s nicely taken goal on 75’, both off Joshua Kimmich’s chip assists, proved the difference on the day.
For the third time in a year, VfB organised a Family Fun Day in Nairobi. The VfB delegation also met with various stakeholders in the Kenyan capital.
The reigning European champion and captain of the Squadra Azzurra moved to Union last summer, having previously spent his entire career in his native Italy, making seven Bundesliga appearances, as among them when he scored a penalty to give Union a 2-1 lead away at Borussia Dortmund. Bonucci also made a further three appearances in the UEFA Champions League. The 36-year-old played his last competitive minutes for Union in the last match before the winter break against 1. FC Köln. He came on in the 68th minute and helped his side defend their lead until the final whistle.
“In economic terms, the past year has been a return to normality,” said Christian Kullmann, chairman of the supervisory board. In any case, returning to profitability was not a matter of course given the tense global economic situation. Hans-Joachim Watzke, chief executive officer, emphasised: “We have left the difficult era of Covid behind us, which given that we have more stadium visitors than any other club, cost us over 161 million euros. We were profitable before Coronavirus, and we are profitable again now after Coronavirus.” The net profit for the year totalled 9.55 million euros. In the previous year, the figure was still in the red (€ -31.89 million).

Michael Zetterer has now been on the books at Werder Bremen for almost ten years. The goalkeeper has experienced a lot with the club since his move from SpVgg Unterhaching in 2015, and his stay on the Weser is set to continue for the foreseeable future, after an extension to the 28-year-old’s contract was announced ahead of last weekend’s clash with Borussia Mönchengladbach. Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Zetterer revealed that it was clear his future lay at Werder, and that he is looking forward to the seasons to come.
