On Friday (30/6), the German Football League (DFL) announced the schedule for the 2023/24 Bundesliga season. SV Werder Bremen will open the new season with a home game at the wohninvest WESERSTADION against FC Bayern München on 18th August.

FCA host Borussia Mönchengladbach on matchday 1 (19th/20th August) at the WWK Arena. That is followed by a trip to champions FC Bayern (25th-27th August) a week later. The other two matches before the first international break are at home to VfL Bochum (1st-3rd September) and away to RB Leipzig (15th-17th September).

Sommer has accepted the fact that he will have to compete with Neuer for the number one keeper spot at Bayern once the latter returns from his broken leg and is fully fit. That was a condition that was perhaps off-putting to other potential candidates that were linked with Bayern. To add, Neuer’s recovery is reportedly on schedule, and he’s always maintained the belief that he’ll be ready for Bayern’s pre-season come July 1st.

The following week will be the first international break of the season, with league action resuming on 12th September with a home game against Borussia Dortmund (12th-14th September).
