Sweden international Rebecka Blomqvist will be wearing green and white again next season after extending her VfL Wolfsburg contract, which was due to expire this summer, by two years. The 25-year-old joined the She-Wolves from then Swedish champions Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC in December 2020, going on to make 40 Women’s Bundesliga, 15 UEFA Women’s Champions League and nine DFB Cup appearances for the club. The forward played a key role in VfL’s tenth cup triumph last season, scoring the crucial second goal in a 2-1 victory over SC Freiburg in the final. Blomqvist has also been named in Sweden’s squad for the upcoming World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Frank, though, feels the fall-out – which has seen full-time VAR official Mason stood down from duty for the next round of Premier League games – took the shine off what he believed was another significant marker from his well-organised squad.

Everything seemed ready to go, but at 16:00 CEST on the dot at Schenckendorffplatz torrential rain started to pour down.
