FCA celebrate 3-2 friendly win against Regensburg

Head coach Enrico Maaßen went with four attacking players in his starting line-up in Ermedin Demirović, Dion Beljo, Maurice Malone and Nathanaël Mbuku. Robert Gumny was also able to return to the pitch after having been out with an ankle injury.

After an evenly-matched opening quarter of an hour, FCA had two good chances to take the lead. Demirović’s chipped shot crashed off the woodwork, before Malone missed from close range (22’). The hosts would go on to take the lead in the 35th minute, as Felix Uduokhai found Malone with a long ball over the defence. His low cross found Beljo, who tapped in. Gumny was able to double FCA’s advantage just before half time, after a strong run down the wing from Mbuku (45’).

After experiencing heavy rain during the first half, the sun returned in time for the second 45 minutes. Regensburg had two chances saved by Tomáš Koubek (47’/67’), as Demirović would further extend FCA’s lead to 3-0. After getting on the end of a pass from Iago, the striker smashed a shot in under the crossbar (58’). Regensburg netted twice in the closing stages through Noel Eichinger (85’ pen.) and Noah Ganaus (90’), but fell just short of a comeback.

FCA were able to celebrate a narrow 3-2 win in their first friendly of a day, as they prepare to take on Ajax at 15:00 CEST.

Match awards from Bayern Munich’s satisfying 2-0 win over PSG

Hertha Berlin

Performance testing & improvisation

Everything seemed ready to go, but at 16:00 CEST on the dot at Schenckendorffplatz torrential rain started to pour down. A classic summer storm prevented the planned start of the Blue-White’s pre-season out on the pitch. Anticipation ahead of the new season, which is reflected by the amount of season ticket sales so far, was also reflected by around 200 fans who had come to watch training, but the weather didn’t allow for the original plan and improvisation was needed. Instead, the players worked inside doing some gym work. “A proper training session would’ve been better in giving me a direct picture of the new players, because every second counts,” explained Pál Dárdai, who will lead the time for a sixth season. For the head coach as well as the supporters, there will be more more opportunities to watch the boys putting in the hard yards in the coming days. “People love this club and support us. If we can work well as a coaching team and everything grows together it will be worth coming again because then we will see a team built on mentality with character that gives everything for Hertha BSC. That is the first step before we can state any goals,” emphasised the head coach.
