Chance taken: Quarshie and Conté join TSG first-team squad permanently

“Joshua and Bambasé have taken their opportunity and have definitely earned this step through their performances for the TSG U23s and for the first-team throughout pre-season,” said Pellegrino Matarazzo. “The integration of talents like Joshua and Bambasé is part of this club’s philosophy, part of TSG’s DNA. It is a philosophy with which I can absolutely identify as a head coach. I hope both Quarshie and Conté will keep developing as we all wish over the coming weeks and months.”

“The toughest possible game”

The 61st season of the Bundesliga will kick off on Friday 18th August at 20:30 CEST against FC Bayern Munich. The reigning champions from Bavaria have likely eliminated their supposed weakness from last season with the arrival of Harry Kane. Ole Werner revealed in the pre-match press conference that he won’t adapt his team’s preparations around the world-renowned striker more than he would for any other player. Despite being very aware of Bayern’s strengths, the head coach of the Green-Whites is optimistic about the coming fixture and believes his team are up to the challenge.

Streich: “The boys have tunnel vision”

The same question will be posed to both teams as before every other opening matchday: Are the team in good shape, and how do the opposition compare? How well are the new signings being integrated into the squad? Christian Streich explained where the focus lies on the first game of the season: “We haven’t had a match for a few weeks, and every team starts with zero points. We want to get the ball rolling immediately and increase our points tally as much as possible. The start of the season is always a bit tense, but if we start strong and maintain a high morale, this should soon ease off.”
