Moving to the capital

Left-back Jerome Roussillon has left VfL Wolfsburg and signed for Bundesliga rivals 1. FC Union Berlin with immediate effect. The 30-year-old Frenchman, who joined the Wolves from Montpellier HSC in summer 2018, made 107 Bundesliga appearances in four and a half years with the Green-and-Whites (five goals), along with a further 21 outings in the Champions League, Europa League and DFB Cup.

Maaßen: “We need a special day”

In the first half of the season, FCA recorded an impressive 1-0 home win over Bayern and also proved to be a tricky opposition for stretches of the 5-2 DFB-Pokal defeat. “We played really well in the two games against them and we’ve won our last four home games; that gives us a good feeling,” said the head coach, who watched Bayern’s 2-0 win over PSG on television.

Here’s how Bayern Munich makes money when Robert Lewandowski scores for FC Barcelona

Lewandowski’s cost to performance ratio is effectively undefined, since he signed for free and scored an insane number of goals in his time at the club. However, selling him to Barcelona will end up being plenty lucrative for Bayern in the long run.

Defeat in Frankfurt

Sandro Schwarz made two changes to the starting eleven for the away game in Frankfurt. Jonjoe Kenny came back into the back four, replacing the injured Peter Pekarík (knee injury). Upfront, Florian Niederlechner made his first start for the club in the place of Wilfried Kanga, who is out for a short while with a toe injury. New signing Tolga Ciğerci made the matchday squad for the first time since returning and found himself on the bench.

Freiburg dancing at three weddings

The season still has a long way to go but SC Freiburg have already made history, with the current campaign set to go down in the club’s history. That is largely down to the fact that in addition to a strong season in the Bundesliga and qualification for the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals Freiburg have reached a European round of 16 tie for the first time ever. Freiburg were away to top Italian club Juventus last Thursday and, despite losing the first leg by a 1-0 scoreline, can still harbour hopes of reaching the quarter-finals.
