Arsenal ‘prepare record €70m’ bid for ‘outstanding’ former player as Arteta makes ‘great request’

Arsenal are reportedly ‘preparing a record bid’ for Valencia and United States midfielder Yunus Musah following a ‘request’ from Mikel Arteta.

The 20-year-old was previously with Arsenal as a youth player. He spent seven years at the Premier League club between 2012 and 2019.

Musah left before he could make his senior debut but he has made a major impact in La Liga with Valencia.

The Spanish outfit are currently embroiled in a relegation battle but the centre-midfield has arguably been their best player. He has featured over 100 times for the La Liga side over the past couple of seasons.

The Gunners are in the market for a new midfielder ahead of this summer. West Ham standout Declan Rice is understood to be their main target but Musah is also an option.

Ex-United States international Eric Wynalda thinks Musah is a “backup” option for Arsenal.

“Musah is not in a good spot at the moment with Valencia however his performances have been enough to warrant interest,” Wynalda said on The Action Network’s Wondergoal Podcast.

“Musah is on a ‘list’ of players that Arsenal are targeting but certainly is not at the top of the list.”

“There are several other targets that still hold the upper hand as far as they are concerned. He’s a backup plan to a backup plan.”

Spanish outlet Fichajes are reporting that Musah’s ‘outstanding’ form has ‘drawn the attention of several important clubs in Europe’.

Arsenal have the ‘greatest interest’ in him and they are ‘preparing a record offer that would go up to 70 million euros’. Gaizka Mendieta is Valencia’s current record sale as – according to transfermarkt – Serie A side Lazio paid €48m to sign him in 2021.

Arsenal face competition from Liverpool and Inter Milan in the race for Musah as they are ‘preparing their respective proposals’.

A separate report from Fabrizio Romano confirms Arsenal are “following” Musah and Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

“I’ve mentioned Arsenal and Chelsea’s interest in Yunus Musah and it is the case that they are following Musah since January; Inter as well,” Romano said.

“At the moment it’s just scouting and not advanced yet, but Musah has good chances to move this summer.”
