Seoane ahead of #BMGFCB: “We must be more compact”

In the press conference ahead of the Foals’ Bundesliga home game against FC Bayern München on Saturday (18:30 CEST), head coach Gerardo Seoane answered journalists’ questions. Here are his most important quotes:

Gerardo Seoane on…

…the possible absence of goalkeeper Jonas Omlin: “Jonas picked up an injury towards the end of training yesterday. He’s still having medical tests. What I can say is that he’ll definitely not be available on Saturday. Jonas has had shoulder problems for a few weeks. Therefore, we’ll now have to clarify with the specialists exactly what injury he has in order to then decide what the best course of treatment is.”

…who could replace Jonas Omlin: “We’ve got four goalkeepers that we think are capable of playing Bundesliga football. They’re all in different phases of their career. We’re very happy with their quality. As soon as we know Jonas’ prognosis, we’ll think about who can replace him.”

…new signing Jordan: “We’re happy that we have finalised this loan deal. I already know Jordan from our time together in Bern, where he was scoring lots of goals. He’s physically strong, good at heading and is at home in the opponents’ penalty area. He’s now been able to gain his first experience of the Bundesliga at Union Berlin. He knows the Bundesliga and therefore doesn’t need a long adjustment period. In Jordan we’ve found a good alternative to Tomáš Čvančara. They could also both play together in attack. This transfer certainly gives us some more options.”

…lessons from the 3-0 defeat against Leverkusen: “We were too open defensively against Leverkusen. We must be more compact and can’t offer too much room between the lines. Additionally, we have to be brave enough to defend forwards so the gaps are smaller. If we can manage to make the pitch smaller, we’ll have the chance to win more physical battles than we did against Leverkusen. We have to improve in this area. It’s the same with preventing counterattacks. If we press and are outplayed, we have to get behind the ball quicker as not to offer the opponent depth.”

…the coming opponents: “FC Bayern have players of huge quality in every position. There’s a lot of talk about Harry Kane of course because of his transfer saga. He is an extremely reliable striker. He doesn’t need many chances to score – that doesn’t make him any easier to defend against. This type of player fits perfectly into Bayern’s system and is something they were previously missing.”

Jonas Omlin will be missing for Borussia against Bayern on Saturday.
