Scally and USA enjoy a winning start to Copa América
Joe Scally and the USMNT got their Copa América campaign off to a winning start. Nico Elvedi and Switzerland finished second in their EURO 2024 group to progress to the knockouts.
USA started their Copa América campaign at home with a 2-0 win over Bolivia. 48,000 fans were in attendance in Dallas to see Christian Pulisic (3’) and Florian Balogun (44’) secure the victory before the break. Their next game is Friday night (00:00 CEST) against Panama, who lost 3-1 to Uruguay in their first outing.
Nico Elvedi is still yet to feature at EURO 2024 in Germany. Switzerland drew 1-1 against the hosts in their final group game on Sunday evening. In front of 47,000 fans in Frankfurt, Dan Ndoye put Switzerland ahead after 28 minutes, before Niclas Füllkrug rescued Germany a point in the second minute of injury time. That equaliser meant that Switzerland finished second in Group A. Their round of 16 tie will be played on Saturday at 18:00 CEST – possible opponents include Italy, Croatia or Albania.
