Reitz added to the Germany U21 squad

Rocco Reitz has been added to the Germany U21 squad for the upcoming EURO qualifier in Bulgaria on Friday (18:15 CEST).

Rocco Reitz’s solid performances for Borussia have not gone under Antonio di Salvo’s radar; the Germany U21 coach has now added the midfielder to his squad for the upcoming U21 EURO qualifier against Bulgaria in Sofia on Friday (18:15 CEST). Reitz comes in for Marton Dardai, who suffered a muscle injury in yesterday’s second-division game between Hertha BSC and FC Schalke 04. Reitz will join his Gladbach teammate Lucas Netz in the Germany U21 squad, who had already been called up.

It’s Reitz’s first Germany call-up for a long time given that his only appearance for his country was back in November 2017, when he played for the Germany U16s against Czech Republic. So far this season, the 21-year-old has played in all seven games for Borussia, starting in the last five.

The Germany U21 team was scheduled to play another EURO qualifier against Israel following the fixture against Bulgaria, but UEFA have decided to postpone all of the matches set to take place in Israel in the upcoming weeks due to the terrorist attacks and the current state of emergency in the country. The U21 EURO qualifier between Israel and Germany, which was due to be played on Tuesday 17th October, will therefore be played at a later date.
