Player of the season nominees: Lars Stindl
Lars Stindl has been nominated for Borussia’s Player of the Season for 2022/23, presented by Cichon Personalmanagement, as well as Jonas Hofmann, Marcus Thuram Stindl and Ko Itakura. Here is a closer look at Stindl’s season.
Lars Stindl was Borussia’s player of the month three times in the 22/23 season, winning the award in January (61% of votes), February (40%) and for one final time of his Borussia career in May.
Stindl kicked off 2023 with a brace against Leverkusen in a 3-2 loss, before being among the goals in the 4-1 away win against Hoffenheim – after setting up the first two for Jonas Hofmann, the 34-year-old scored the third.
In the following month, Borussia’s captain picked up where he left off as the Foals defeated FC Bayern Munich 3-2. Stindl scored the opener, finding the bottom corner after a low free kick into the area from Hofmann. He was a presence all game and recorded the most shots on goal with four efforts.
In his final month with the club, the departing captain was voted player of the match in every game. The forward found the back of the net in the 2-0 win against Bochum as well as the 5-2 defeat to Dortmund, while scoring the equaliser in the 2-2 draw against Leverkusen. While it wasn’t quite a fairytale ending with Stindl unable to get on the scoresheet in his final game at BORUSSIA-PARK for the club – a 2-0 win over Augsburg – the striker did record an impressive assist for Hofmann’s goal.
Lars Stindl made 31 competitive appearances this season (29 Bundesliga games, two DFB-Pokal games), recording nine goals and ten assists. Impressively, four of our captain’s seven Bundesliga goals came off the bench.
