Nicolas is Borussia’s Player of the Month for January

Moritz Nicolas is Borussia’s Player of the Month for January. The goalkeeper came out on top against Stefan Lainer and Robin Hack in the vote, presented by Cichon Personalmanagement.

The poll to choose January’s Player of the Month – presented by Cichon Personalmanagement – was a close-run thing. Goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas eventually came out on top after the vote in the FohlenApp with 41%, ahead of Stefan Lainer (34%) and Robin Hack (25%). The 26-year-old therefore ended Rocco Reitz’s run of four successive Borussia Player of the Month awards.

Nicolas proved himself to be a reliable presence between the sticks for the Foals in January. The netminder was rarely tested in the 3-1 home win over VfB Stuttgart, but impressed with several excellent saves in the 2-1 defeat to FC Augsburg and the 0-0 draw with Bayer Leverkusen. Particularly in the match away at the league leaders, the ‘keeper put in a superb performance. With nine saves, he was a huge factor in Borussia earning a point at the BayArena. “It’s always the holy grail for a goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet. I’m particularly pleased with that,” said Nicolas.
