Neuhaus on board as Foals turn focus to the start of the competitive season
The Foals will contest their first competitive game of the new season in three days time when they take on fifth division side TuS Bersenbrück at the Stadion an der Bremer Brücke in Osnabrück on Friday (18:00 CEST) in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.
After four weeks of pre-season , the Foals now turn their attention to the cup tie. “I am sure that all of the players are taking this task very seriously. There is only one thought for us – to reach the next round”, emphasises VfL coach Gerardo Seoane, who brought his team together for the first training session of the week on Tuesday.
Florian Neuhaus returned to the pitch after having overcome his muscle problem, whilst Tomáš Čvančara joined in with training once again after having missed out on the recently friendly against HSC Montpellier due to his workload being managed after recovering from his injury. After warming up with a handball game, the boys continued with a 90-minute session that included various passing exercises and drills. The team capped off the session with a ten-against-ten game in which Neuhaus played as a joker and could be used by both teams as a passing option.
Omlin, Herrmann and Wolf train individually
Borussia’s new captain Jonas Omlin (distortion and contusion of the left shoulder) is training individually today, as are Patrick Herrmann (recovering from knee inflammation) and Hannes Wolf (recovering from muscle problems in the left thigh). Christoph Kramer and Manu Koné, who are both recovering from knee injuries, are meanwhile continuing their rehabilitation.
The first competitive game of the new season gets underway at 18:00 CEST on Friday. More than 10,000 fans will be supporting the Foals at the Stadion an der Bremer Brücke in Osnabrück. “That is unbelievable. It boosts the players a lot when they get such great backing from their own supporters. We’re really looking forward to the match, and I think that the opponents will also be looking forward to experiencing a game in front of such a great crowd,” says Seoane. The Swiss will lead his side onto the training pitch twice more before the Pokal game: on Wednesday and Thursday at 14:00 CEST, with both sessions taking place behind closed doors.
