Jan Olschowsky: “My appearances have been hard-earned”

Jan Olschowsky spoke to the media following Gladbach’s defeat to Dortmund on Saturday. The goalkeeper discussed the disappointing result, his first appearance since November and the illness that kept him on the sidelines for a number of weeks.

Jan Olschowsky on…

…his first appearance since November 2022: I was of course really pleased when I found out that I would be playing in goal. There were doubts around Jonas Omlin in the build-up and he had some complaints again before the game. That’s why I only found out that I’d be playing before the activation session in the morning. It was great to be back on the pitch but of course you’d like to play every week.

…the first 30 minutes of the game: What happened in the first half an hour simply can’t happen at this level. We didn’t execute our plan. You can’t afford to defend like that in that sort of game. We must work on that to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

…the second half: We were more in the game in the second half and we were more stable at the back. We operated better with the five-man backline, we got into some dangerous positions and we managed to reduce the deficit. We’ll have to build on that and give everything we’ve got in the next game. I’m annoyed about the goal in injury time from a personal perspective. I wanted to get the game going again to maybe have one more chance going forward but was too frantic in the moment.
