Hack: “The team spirit is strong”

Hear from new signing Robin Hack and head coach Gerardo Seoane after Borussia’s 1-1 draw against FC Wegberg-Beeck in their first pre-season friendly.

Robin Hack: My first 45 minutes for Borussia felt good. The pitch was very dry, so it was tough to play short passes. We made things difficult for ourselves at times. But, we still managed to equalise late on. I think it was a decent performance for our first pre-season friendly, and we can build on it. Personally, I’m looking forward to what’s still to come. I think that one of my strengths is cutting into the middle and looking for a chance to shoot. I was able to do it a couple of times in this game. It would have been nice to score, so hopefully I’ll be able to in the next game. The coach has a clear idea of what he wants and his instructions are easy to understand. We’ve worked hard these past days and have racked up some miles already. But, it’s a lot of fun and I think that everyone is working hard. The team spirit is strong.

Head coach Gerardo Seoane: The most important thing in the first friendly of pre-season is that every player features for 45 minutes and that no one gets injured. After a long, intense first week of training, it’s important that everyone feels good at the end. We will of course talk to each player about their individual performances. The result of the game isn’t that important to me, especially when this early into pre-season. The most important thing is getting in 45 minutes on a full-size pitch. This week, we’ve only been training on a smaller pitch. More of our national team players will be returning over the next couple of days, so we will be able to integrate them into training. By the third week, they will also be ready to play. With pre-season being five weeks long, there are different stages for each week. At a certain point the intensity will increase, but the number of sessions will decrease. The closer we get to the first competitive game of the season, the more focus will be placed on how we want to play.
