Gladbach or Saarbrücken to play Kaiserslautern in DFB-Pokal semi-final

The draw for the DFB-Pokal semi-finals took place late on Saturday evening. The winner of the quarter-final tie between 1. FC Saarbrücken and Borussia will face second-tier 1. FC Kaiserslautern on April 2nd or 3rd.

The Foals will aim to secure a semi-final spot when they play their rescheduled game against Saarbrücken on March 12th (20:30 CET). The DFB confirmed the new date on Friday after the original game was postponed due to an unplayable pitch at the Ludwigsparkstadion.

The winner of that match, the last of this year’s quarter-finals, will play against Kaiserslautern on April 2nd or 3rd. Due to lower-division sides having home advantage, the Foals would be the away team for that game, while Saarbrücken would be playing at home. The draw was made on Saturday evening by sports journalist and commentator Béla Réthy under the supervision of DFB representative Manuel Hartmann. As Borussia’s quarter final is yet to be played, both they and Saarbrücken were represented in the draw by a placeholder ticket.

The semi-final draw in full:

  • 1. FC Kaiserslautern vs. 1. FC Saarbrücken/Borussia Mönchengladbach
  • Bayer Leverkusen vs. Fortuna Düsseldorf
