Foals involved in the EUROs, Copa América, and Paris Olympics

While the majority of Gladbach’s players are able to put their feet up now that the season is over, a number of the Foals are in the midst of preparing for major tournaments with their respective national sides.

The ball will get rolling on this year’s European Championships in Germany on Friday, 14th June, which will see the host nation take on Scotland at the Allianz Arena in Munich. The following day, Borussia defender Nico Elvedi will make his first appearance at the tournament when Switzerland face off against Hungary in their opening group stage clash (Saturday, 15th June, 15:00 CEST).

Austria will then begin their EURO 2024 journey in Düsseldorf on Monday, 17th June (21:00 CEST) when they tackle France in their first fixture in Group D. Despite being involved in the team’s preparations for the European Championships, Gladbach’s Stefan Lainer was unfortunately not named in Ralf Rangnick’s final squad, and will therefore not make an appearance at the tournament. Max Wöber, whose loan spell at the Foals will come to an end on 30th June, will be in action for Austria throughout the tournament.

Scally awaits call-up for Copa América

This year’s Copa América, which will be held in the USA, is scheduled to get underway on 20th June.A participation in the tournament should prove beneficial to the USMNT in their preparations for the 2026 World Cup, which they are set to host along with neighbouring countries Mexico and Canada.

Borussia full-back Joe Scally started for the USA in both their friendly defeat against Colombia (5-1) and draw with Brazil (1-1), playing the full 90 minutes against Néstor Lorenzo’s side and being substituted off just prior to the end of the second fixture. The USMNT’s final squad for the Copa América will be announced on Friday (17:00 CEST), which will see Fabian Otte involved as the side’s head of goalkeeping. The USA will then make their first outing at the tournament under the floodlights against Bolivia, with the match kicking off at 0:00 CEST as it turns to Monday, 24th July.

Koné begins preparations for Olympics

After being called up for France’s preliminary squad ahead of the upcoming Paris Olympics, Borussia midfielder Manu Koné is yet to find out whether he will definitely make an appearance for the host nation this summer. Head coach Thierry Henry’s side will begin their preparations for the tournament on 16th July, with the final squad being announced 13 days prior.
