Elvedi, Lainer and Wöber in provisional Euros squads

The season isn’t over yet for seven Borussia players. Three players have been named in their respective countries’ provisional Euros squads, whilst four others are also in international action.

SWITZERLAND

Nico Elvedi (Photo: imago images / justpictures.ch) has been named in Switzerland’s provisional Euros squad. They are set to face off against Estonia in Luzern on Tuesday 4th May (20:15 CEST) and Austria in St. Gallen on Saturday 8th June (18:00 CEST) in their last two friendlies before the tournament. Murat Yakin has until 23:59 CEST on 7th June to confirm his final squad to UEFA. The Switzerland national team head coach is planning to select three goalkeepers and 21 outfield players for the Euros.

AUSTRIA

Head coach Ralf Rangnick has called up Maximilian Wöber and Stefan Lainer in his 29-man squad for the last two friendlies before EURO 2024. The Austrians are in action against Serbia on Tuesday 4th June (20:45 CEST) in Vienna, before taking on hosts Switzerland on Saturday 8th June (18:00 CEST) in St. Gallen. Rangnick is set to reduce his squad to a maximum of 26 players for the Euros on Friday 7th June.

JAPAN

Ko Itakura and the Japan national team are set to continue their World Cup qualifying campaign. They will play against hosts Myanmar in Rangun on Thursday 6th June (14:10 CEST), before taking on Syria in Hiroshima on Tuesday 11th June (12:15 CEST). Japan are currently top of their qualifying group with four wins from four games.

USA

The USA national team will be taking part in Copa America, which is set to take place in their own country from 20th June to 14th July. Joe Scally & Co. will be contesting two friendlies as preparation for the tournament. They will be in action against Colombia in Landover on Saturday 8th June (23:30 CEST), before taking on Brazil in Orlando on Wednesday 13th June (01:00 CEST).

GERMANY

Rocco Reitz has been with the Germany national team since Sunday. Julian Nagelsmann’s side are preparing for the upcoming Euros in Thuringia, but they’re currently without several players, who will bolster the squad at a later date. Rocco Reitz – as well as 1. FSV Mainz 05’s Brajan Gruda – will be training with the squad in Blankenhain until Friday for this reason.

ITALY U19s

Fabio Chiarodia will be taking part in a training camp with the Italy U19s from 3rd to 6th June. This camp is part of the preparations for the U19 Euros, which are taking place in Northern Ireland from 15th to 28th July. Italy will be in action against Norway (15th July), the hosts Northern Ireland (18th July) and Ukraine (21st July) in the group stages.
