#BMGFCH: Match reaction

After the Foals’ 2-1 win over 1. FC Heidenheim, we have the reactions of Max Wöber, Rocco Reitz and Julian Weigl, as well as the two head coaches Gerardo Seoane and Frank Schmidt.

Max Wöber: It was time to finally get that first win in front of the home crowd – and we managed to do that. It’s good for the morale of both the team and the fans and it’s a relief for us all. We made it a little bit difficult for ourselves today, as we couldn’t wrap it up before the end with a third goal. Nevertheless, we conceded very few chances and could rely on our attacking quality.

Rocco Reitz: I’m extremely pleased that we could gift our fans this first home win. We had to hold on in the final phases to defend our narrow lead as a team, because before that we failed to take advantage of our counterattacks. Overall, we managed to bring a lot higher intensity onto the pitch than in the last game and managed to deliver on what the coach wanted from us. We are very happy to get the three points. We have to take this positive feeling with us into the next games.

Julian Weigl: It was important to a show a reaction and the right mindset. But you could also see again today how hard we need to work to get a win. Nothing was gifted to us. We played a good first half, but we should have led by more. Heidenheim scored the equaliser with what was probably their only chance. But we came out well after half time, and scored the second goal straight away. Afterwards, we were pushed back a bit again, because we couldn’t get out anymore. But it goes down as a win – and that’s all that matters today.

Head coach Gerardo Seoane: In the first 60 minutes, we were very disciplined both with and without the ball. Defensively, we conceded very little and created a lot going forward ourselves. With a little more precision and better decision making, we could have wrapped the game up in these phases. As we didn’t manage to do that, we had to face a lot in the last 15 minutes. We couldn’t relieve the pressure anymore, so Heidenheim were able to push us back. Compliments though go to my team for how they battled in the final phases and held on to the narrow lead.

Head coach Frank Schmidt (1. FC Heidenheim): We tried everything, gave everything and had chances to equalise again. We would have liked to get a point, but it wasn’t to be today. It’s a shame that we conceded both goals from corners. Nevertheless, I have to admit that Borussia had more chances overall. But don’t forget that the Bundesliga is completely new territory for a lot of our players. Nobody should hang their heads. It’s a long season and we’ll continue on our path.
