André Wachter joins Borussia as goalkeeping coach

Fabian Otte’s successor as Gladbach goalkeeping coach has been confirmed, with André Wachter joining the Foals from VfB Stuttgart.

“We are very pleased to have found a goalkeeping coach in André Wachter who, despite his tender age, already has a great deal of experience,” said Nils Schmadtke, sporting director at Borussia. “We’re sure he will be a safe pair of hands in guiding our goalkeeping team.”

Wachter, who was most recently responsible for coordinating the goalkeeping department at Stuttgart’s academy, was considered a hot prospect in the early stages of his playing career with 1. FC Nürnberg, before a serious shoulder injury forced him into an early retirement at just 19 years of age. He remained at the club as a coach, before arriving at VfB in 2016 via 1. FFC Frankfurt and a further spell in Nuremberg. His move to Borussia comes after a full eight years with last season’s Bundesliga runners-up.

“I’m delighted with the trust that the Borussia board have placed in me by signing me. This move is a perfect next step in my development. I’m really looking forward to joining the Foals’ coaching team and, of course, working with the boys out on the training pitch,” says the UEFA Pro License holder.
