June: “The old FCA with a new face”

Review of the year 2023

Another year is coming to an end: 365 days of both highs and lows, but above all a host of memorable moments for FC Augsburg. It’s time once more to reflect on the past twelve months. In part six of FCA’s review of the year, we look back on June.

While the boys bid farewell to their much-deserved summer break, it would be a busy month for FC Augsburg’s board, because ultimately, the end of the club’s 12th Bundesliga season signals the beginning of the 13th. As a result, FCA directed their focus towards the upcoming campaign and were active over the transfer period. Goalkeeper Finn Dahmen made his way to the Fuggerstadt, and 19-year-old shot-stopper Marcel Łubik signed a professional contract with the club after a spell with the U23s. Defender Patric Pfeiffer also came to Augsburg in June on a free transfer from Darmstadt.

In order to better position themselves for the future, both in a structural and sporting sense, and to direct more attention towards various key topics, the management decided to appoint Marinko Jurendic as the new sporting director. Heinz Moser also joined the team as the director of development.

FCA announced the signing of Sven Michel, as well as Lukas Petkov’s loan deal with Fürth, which was arranged to give the midfielder game time in the 2. Bundesliga. Daniel Klein also transferred to third-division side SV Sandhausen on a loan deal.

Mizuno shirt unveiled

At the end of June, FC Augsburg presented the home and away shirts for the 2023/24 season together with their new supplier Mizuno at the official jersey presentation at the VR-Bank, as well as at the FCA stand at the Augsburger Sommernächten. It was the first time that the Fuggerstädter’s kit had been created by the renowned Japanese company, and the collection aimed to reflect the combination of tradition and modernity under the motto: “The old FCA with a new face”.

The signing of Tim Breithaupt was also announced at the presentation of the new shirt collection.
