Jeffrey Gouweleeuw extends FCA contract
The Dutchman to remain on board
Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, who joined the Fuggerstädter from AZ Alkmaar in January 2016, will remain at FCA beyond the end of the season. The 32-year-old centre-back has extended his contract, which was originally set to expire at the end of the season, until 30th June 2025 with an option for a further campaign.
Gouweleeuw is the player with the second-most top-tier games for FCA with 209 (five goals and seven assists), behind only Daniel Baier (274). The Dutchman has featured 14 times this season, 13 of which were in the starting eleven. The 1.88-metre-tall defender has become a regular presence in the back four under head coach Jess Thorup.
An extension after open and constructive discussions
“I’ve made no secret of the fact that I feel at home at FCA and with my family in Augsburg. After open and constructive discussions in the last few weeks, I’m pleased that we’ve agreed a contract extension and I can remain a part of the FCA family,” said Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, who recently celebrated the eighth anniversary of his joining Augsburg.
FCA sporting director Marinko Jurendic is equally pleased about Gouweleeuw’s commitment to FCA: “With his consistently excellent performances in the first half of the season, Jeff has contributed to our new stability and step forwards as a team. Jeff will also be an important cornerstone of our team in the future. With his experience and as a personality, he will continue to be a great mentor for young players and an important spokesman for the coach and the team. We’re looking forward to continuing to work together successfully.”
