International duty: Jensen on the scoresheet, minutes for Mbabu
Round-up of all the results involving FCA players
The first international break of 2024 came to an end on Tuesday night – here is our round-up of the games involving FCA players.
While Ermedin Demirović returned to Augsburg after losing in the semi-finals of the UEFA EURO 2024 qualifying play-offs with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Fredrik Jensen and Finland played a friendly after their defeat. The 26-year-old opened the scoring in a 2-1 win over Estonia, scoring the rebound from his saved penalty. He also played a big role in the second goal, with his shot from close range hitting the bar and then ending up in the back of the net via Estonia goalkeeper Karl Hein.
Kevin Mbabu featured for Switzerland for the first time since September 2022. He came on for the final quarter of an hour in their 0-0 draw with Denmark, before getting the last 25 minutes of their 1-0 win away to Republic of Ireland. The other FCA player in the Swiss squad, Ruben Vargas, only featured in the first game (until the 76th minute).
Kömür misses out on qualification for the U19 EUROs
Arne Engels played the full 90 minutes for Belgium U21s in their EURO qualifier in Spain. They lost 1-0 after conceding late on against the league leaders in Group B.
Mert Kömür and Germany U19s missed out on qualification for the European Championships in Northern Ireland this summer. They lost 3-2 against Romania last Saturday, with the FCA youngster playing the full game. He didn’t feature in their 3-1 win over Turkey on Tuesday.
