FCA part ways with head coach Enrico Maaßen
With immediate effect
After in-depth conversations and an analysis of the current sporting situation, FC Augsburg have decided to relieve head coach Enrico Maaßen of his duties with immediate effect. Sporting director Marinko Jurendic and managing director Michael Ströll personally informed the 39-year-old on Monday evening.
“We took the time we needed after the first seven games and the defeat at home to Darmstadt to look at our current sporting situation and the development of our team. Following open conversations with Enrico Maaßen, we believe that we needed to change our head coach. Despite all their commitment and hard work, Enno and the team haven’t managed to buck the trend and be successful on the pitch,” stated sporting director Marinko Jurendic.
“We would like to thank Enrico Maaßen for his tireless efforts for our club. Enno fully exemplified the values of FCA with energy and commitment each and every day. However, we have arrived at the decision that it is necessary for us to make a change to our head coach in order to overturn the negative trend we have witnessed in recent weeks,” said Michael Ströll, managing director of FCA. “We wish Enno all the best for the future, both professionally and personally.”
“I am naturally disappointed with this decision, because I am convinced that we would have been able to manage to turn things around together,” said Enrico Maaßen. “I am grateful to FCA and the club’s management team for giving me the opportunity to coach in the Bundesliga. I wish FCA all the best for the future, and hope the foundations that we’ve laid together will help lead to success.”
Until a new head coach has been appointed, U23s head coach Tobias Strobl will take charge of the team on an interim basis.
