Paul Parker does not think Erik ten Hag will want to keep hold of Wout Weghorst despite his similarities to Man Utd icons Steve Bruce and Mark Hughes.
That is right, Weghorst has been compared to the club’s former centre-back and captain Steve Bruce, and their ex-striker Mark Hughes.
The Dutch striker was brought in by Ten Hag during the winter transfer window on a six-month loan deal.
He has struggled in front of goal, netting only twice in 28 appearances, with none of his goals coming in the Premier League.
In fairness to the Burnley loanee, he has not always led the line with Ten Hag bizarrely putting him in a No. 10 role more often than not.
Despite his poor goalscoring return, Weghorst has a fan in Parker,
Parker does not think Ten Hag will look to sign Weghorst beyond this summer but has praised the big man for being reliable and someone with a personality that can be compared to Bruce and Hughes.
“I think if Erik ten Hag gets exactly what he wants in the summer, then he would probably not want Wout Weghorst in his squad for the next season,” he explained.
“But the positive thing about Weghorst is that everyone knows what they are going to get from him. His teammates can rely on him and they 100% know what to expect from him.
“I want to compare his personality with Mark Hughes and Steve Bruce. Three different players but I knew what I would get from them and I knew that I had to match what they were given to the team. Weghorst is just like that. He is an honest player.
“Erik ten Hag brought him in because he is honest. It wasn’t about getting 30 goals from him. He wanted someone who wanted to work hard and bring honesty into this team.”
Man Utd got back to winning ways after two straight 1-0 defeats last Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Wolves.
Next up for the Red Devils is an away match against Bournemouth, who are mathematically safe from relegation.
Former Man Utd defender Paul Parker has urged the Red Devils to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Morten Hjulmand in the summer transfer window.
None other than Wout Weghorst rescued the Netherlands against Poland. Ronald Koeman needs him…if he uses him properly and not like Erik ten Hag did.
Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund has been blasted for being “annoying to watch” as his teammates have been a “negative influence on him”.
Marcus Rashford is not interested in leaving Manchester United because “he’s worried about what’s outside of Manchester”, according to Paul Parker.
Former Man Utd defender Paul Parker thinks it is a “difficult” decision over whether to bring Mason Greenwood back to Old Trafford or not.
