Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has labeled the current crop of Manchester United players “snowflakes” who would have “got mum or dad” had they been in the dressing room under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The club legend – who was let go in November 2021 and replaced in the permanent hotseat by Erik ten Hag – spoke out about both his playing career and his time as manager in ‘An Evening With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’, with some of his quotes reported by The Athletic.
A particularly notable point in the evening came as he compared the dressing room antics in his playing days with those he experienced in management, insisting the fighting commonplace in the 90s would be too much for the mama’s boys in modern day football.
He said: “The lads in that dressing room were absolutely fantastic. Keano was the leader, the one everyone looked up to. David May was the joker, the clown. Gary (Neville) is still the busiest and was the busiest back then as well. Nicky (Butt) and Giggsy (Ryan Giggs) were the entertainers.
“It was just a fantastic dressing room. Winners, who hated losing. They had a few fights, like you should do, after bad games. You had to shake each other up.
“If you do that to the boys now, they will get their dad, or their mum, or their agents… snowflakes. Not many of today’s lot would have survived in that dressing room.”
Later in the evening, having regaled the masses with tales of glory, intrigue and fight, Solskjaer also reminded the audience of his emotional investment in the club that eventually sacked him.
“I have cried, as a grown man, twice in my life,” he said. “The first time was after my testimonial. And then, a year and a half ago, when I had to leave. Manchester United just does something to you.”
