Romano reveals Pochettino and player stance on transfer as Madrid ‘insist’ on £72m Chelsea flop

Chelsea forward Kai Havertz is open to a move to Real Madrid, with Mauricio Pochettino happy to see the German leave in the summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues spent around £72million to sign Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020.

The player has not enjoyed the best of times at Stamford Bridge, especially over the last two years, but his goal against Manchester City in the Champions League final in 2020 means he will forever be remembered by the club’s fans.

There will be lots of outgoing transfers at the Premier League club this summer, though it has to be said that Havertz was not expected to be one of the players sold.

That has all changed, however, with European champions Real Madrid reportedly interested.

This was reported by transfer expert Romano last week and the rumours have not died down since then.

Romano claimed on his YouTube channel that Los Blancos manager and asked the club’s hierarchy to sign the Chelsea attacker.

And the Italian journalist has provided an update on the situation. He claims that Madrid will step up their interest in the coming days and has given the indication that a deal is very possible.

He claimed on Twitter that Havertz ‘would be keen on the move’, meaning there will be ‘no issues’ agreeing personal terms.

Another boost to Madrid is that the player’s ‘priority’ is to join them, while Chelsea are ‘open’ to selling him but also hoping and ‘waiting’ for other clubs to join the race.

Havertz has scored 32 goals in 139 appearances for the Blues and , according to the statistics, anyway.

The 23-year-old’s struggles at Stamford Bridge have come down to the fact he is being utilised as a striker, and a false-nine at times, which are definitely not his best positions.

Blues boss Pochettino can definitely get the best out of Havertz, but he might not get the chance to with Madrid circling.

Pochettino does have a big decision to make with Romelu Lukaku, whose loan at Inter will come to an end after Saturday’s Champions League final against Manchester City.

Lukaku will probably leave the club, but the Argentine manager could decide that the Belgian will be a part of his plans next season.

Regardless of Lukaku and Havertz’s futures, Chelsea are expected to sign a new No. 9 in the summer.
