Klopp remains coy on two Liverpool transfers; gives clear verdict on top four hopes after Man Utd loss

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp remained coy when asked about James Milner and Alexis Mac Allister during his press conference on Friday.

The Reds are expected to be busy during this summer’s transfer window. They are likely to sign two or three new midfielders before next season.

Unsurprisingly, Klopp did not say too much when he was asked about Milner and Mac Allister during his latest press conference.

“No (nothing to say). I can say really good conversations with [Milner]. He knows how highly I value him,” Klopp told reporters.

“What the outcome will be of his decisions, I’m not sure if it happened already. Nothing to say about it (Mac Allister).”

United still have a game in hand and they need just nine points from their remaining five matches to ensure that they will finish ahead of Liverpool.

Klopp expects “United to get the points they need” to finish in the top four.

“Other teams are above us and if they win their games we have no chance,” Klopp admitted.

“We have teams behind us, Brighton could win all of their games this season given how they played last night.

“We have 59 points, we can get 71 maximum, I think United will get the points they need. We have enough to do with ourselves. Brentford, oh my God, it’s such a difficult game. They are really good at counter-attacking. The players and the manager are great.”

“It’s about finishing the season as high as possible for us. It was that before but it wasn’t looking as bright. It could be fifth. Tottenham, Brighton and maybe Brentford are fighting for that.”

Klopp has also revealed that last month’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal was a turning point for Liverpool.

“We needed a moment where we feel this is going in the right direction. It was the second half against Arsenal. It was a really important half for us,” Klopp revealed.

“If they scored three or four then it may have been our lowest point. We turned it around and could have won. We changed it a little bit and it is much better.

“In possession, we are much more controlled than we were before. We look like we have a common idea again. It’s much more enjoyable than it was before.”
