Chelsea ‘expect’ bidding war for €60m star as European giant are reluctant to meet asking price

Fabrizio Romano has clarified that Chelsea “expect” more clubs to be interested in Kai Havertz as Real Madrid have been put off by his lofty valuation.

Things are expected to be busy at Stamford Bridge this summer. With Mauricio Pochettino keen to put his stamp on things, there will be plenty of ins and outs.

As Chelsea currently have one of the biggest squads in the Premier League, some high-profile departures are expected.

, but the Spanish club are reluctant to meet Chelsea’s valuation for the player.

“Real Madrid are not intentioned to pay €60m plus add-ons for Kai Havertz,” Romano confirmed on Twitter.

“He’s appreciated by board and Carlo Ancelotti but no plan to spend that amount of money.

“Havertz situation will be discussed in the next days, Chelsea expect more clubs to approach them.”

Chelsea signed Havertz in 2020 for a fee which could rise to £71m with odd-ons included.

The club have reportedly set a €60m asking price for the player, although Real Madrid seem reluctant to pay this figure.

Since his arrival in London, Havertz has had mixed fortunes in a Chelsea shirt. In 139 appearances he has scored 32 goals.

His best moment came against Manchester City in the Champions League final in 2020–21, where he scored the winning goal.

Real Madrid’s interest does make sense as they look to replace the likes of Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio.

, although the England forward has other potential suitors.

“They believe that Kai Havertz is the kind of creative player with the skills Real Madrid don’t have in the current team,” Romano explained.

“Marco Asensio will leave the club, so one more creative player could be really important. He can play in different positions; behind the striker, as a central striker in emergency situations, and also on the wing.

“One crucial factor is Carlo Ancelotti. He really appreciates Kai Havertz, and considers Kai Havertz as a really, really good player. He has been a big fan of him for a long time.”

While Real Madrid and Ancelotti are big fans of the forward, Chelsea might need to lower their asking price to get him out of the club this summer.
