Chelsea duo James, Chilwell address transfer rumours as Mount laughs off Man Utd speculation

Reece James and Ben Chilwell want Mason Mount to stay at Chelsea after the England international laughed off speculation he could move to Man Utd.

The Red Devils are reportedly leading the race to sign Mount with the Chelsea midfielder about to enter the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have failed to meet Mount’s demands for a new contract after months of negotiations and Todd Boehly has decided he would rather sell the  24-year-old this summer than lose him for nothing in a year’s time.

A report earlier today said that Mount had now after the Red Devils agreed personal terms with Mount.

It now looks increasingly likely he will leave the club in the summer transfer window and Mount was asked about the speculation during a trip to Barcelona .

When asked whether he was moving to Man Utd by Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle during a grid walk, Mount laughed the question off before replying: “No, I’m here to just enjoy this race today. Amazing day. Can’t wait to watch it.”

Mount’s team-mates Ben Chilwell and Reece James were also in Barcelona and were both asked about Mount’s future.

Chilwell said: “If he goes everyone will be sad to see him go. I mean, that’s none of my business personally, but I’d love him to stay.

“He’s my best mate. Personally I’d love him to stay but it’s not my business, I can’t really comment on that.”

James said in his interview with Brundle: “Yeah, of course. If he goes everyone will be sad to see him go.”

Chelsea announced at the end of last montht that former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will become the new head coach at Stamford Bridge from the beginning of next season.

Asked whether he was excited to work under the Argentinian, James replied: “Yeah, everyone is saying he’s a great manager.

“Hopefully next season we find our feet early and we’re a good, strong side.

Former striker Andy Cole has warned Man Utd about signing Mount as he thinks they need someone with more “X-factor”.

Cole told FA Cup Odds: “None of the Chelsea players improve Manchester United. They can’t be any worse next season; otherwise, they’ll be in big trouble. I know there’s talk of Mason Mount; he’s a decent player who works hard and puts in a shift.

“But Manchester United need someone with that X-factor and flair. Someone like Jude Bellingham drives the team forward.”
