The women’s team of 1. FC Union Berlin will face Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in the last 16 of the DFB Pokal, following today’s draw.

Former German international and assistant coach of the U16 team Lena Lotzen drew the lots alongside national coach, Christian Wück. The matches will be played between 22 and 24 November, with exact times yet to be determined.

The opponents

Cup finalists in 2021, Eintracht finished third in the Bundesliga last season and were therefore able to qualify for the Women’s Champions League again, though they lost to Sporting Clube de Portugal in their first game. They started this year’s Bundesliga season with a 2-0 win against Jena and a 2-2 draw at Bayer Leverkusen.

“We have been drawn against a very attractive opponent in Eintracht Frankfurt,” said Union’s director of women’s professional football, Jennifer Zietz, on the draw. “It will be a difficult task for us and we will be the underdogs going into the game. But we have already shown against Leipzig that we can give a Bundesliga club a run for their money at home.”

Further information about the game will follow in the coming weeks.
