The women’s team of 1. FC Union Berlin has returned to Berlin-Köpenick after a four-day short training camp in Bad Saarow.

Best conditions at Scharmützelsee

On Tuesday, the Union squad travelled to the Hotel Esplanade Resort & Spa in Bad Saarow. After checking in and having lunch together, they went to the first of two training sessions on the sports field in Bad Saarow that afternoon. The focus was on pressing and finding solutions when in possession of the ball. From the training pitch, the team returned to the hotel, where sports psychologist Elisa Lierhaus led a workshop.

Wednesday was dominated by the second test match of the summer preparations. After the team briefing in the morning, the team faced Polish champions Pogon Szczecin in Bad Saarow at 14.00. After a powerful opening phase, the Berlinerinnen failed to take the lead and received a goal. Lisa Heiseler equalised seven minutes later to make it 1:1 at halft-time. In the second half, head coach Ailien Poese’s team created numerous chances and were rewarded by new signing Korina Janez and Naika Reissner. Shortly before the final whistle, Pogon Szczecin scored to make the final score 3:2. Back at the hotel, the evening was rounded off with a barbecue.

The Union players started Thursday morning with a workshop before returning to the training pitch. In the public training session, the possession game was further refined and then practised in groups. They tried finishing situations, played football tennis and worked on their athleticism. After the team training session, some of the Union players were delighted to receive autographs and selfies. Back at the hotel, it was time for lunch and independent regeneration. In the afternoon, the three goalkeepers completed an additional session under the guidance of goalkeeping coach Laura von Zadow. Athletics coach Marcus Liebig also worked individually with some of the players on their physical condition. The day ended with a joint dinner, during which the team watched the German women’s national football team’s opening victory at the Olympic Games.

On the final morning, breakfast and a media training session were the only things left on the programme for the women’s team of 1. FC Union Berlin. To start the day, there was a little surprise for the birthday girl Celine Frank. The team returned to the capital before midday.
