The women’s team of 1. FC Union Berlin travelled to Bad Saarow on Tuesday morning for a four-day short training camp. The Unionerinnen are staying at the Hotel Esplanade Resort & Spa, which is probably familiar to most Union players as the Bundesliga team has already spent parts of its preparation there on several occasions.

After checking in, they had lunch together before the team completed their first training session. In front of a few spectators on the Bad Saarow sports field, there was an intensive programme on the agenda. Athletics coach Marcus Liebig made the players work up a good sweat. After warming up, the players took part in an 11-a-side training game, in which they practised pressing and were required to find solutions in the possession game. The session ended with a shoot-out, in which Team Young was able to beat Team Old.

After training, the team returned to the hotel, where they completed a joint workshop with sports psychologist Elisa Lierhaus. The day for the players ended with a few treatments and dinner together.

The squad

All 25 players from the professional squad travelled to Bad Saarow. New signing Eleni Markou also travelled to the short training camp immediately after signing. While Maria Cristina Lange continued her rehab off the pitch, Anna Weiß and Antonia Halverkamps completed parts of the training programme and otherwise worked individually.

Next steps

Today, Wednesday 24.07.2024, is the second test match of the summer preparations for the Union women. They will face Polish champions Pogon Szczecin at 14.00 on the Bad Saarow sports pitch. On Thursday, there will be a public training session at 11.30 on the Bad Saarow sports field before the journey home on Friday.
