Having left for Bavaria on Sunday, Union’s women’s first game of their one-week training camp is scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday, 26.07.2023), when they will face Regionalliga side FFC Wacker München. Kick off at the Sportpark Aschheim is at 19:00.

The Opponents

2004 to 2010, the Munich-based side played in the 2. Bundesliga, before relegation and nine years in the Regionalliga, until they slumped once again, this time into the Bayernliga in 2019. After only one year, however, the Blue and Whites returned to the third division in 2020, re-establishing themselves there, and finishing third last season.

Since 2021, former Turkish international Çağla Korkmaz has been the player-coach at FFC Wacker. In addition to her main role on the touchlines, the 32-year-old also took to the pitch for a short period last season.

The club’s best-known former player is ex-national goalkeeper Nadine Angerer. The future world and European champion played for FFC Wacker from 1996 to 1999.

Union want to go one better

In the first match of their training camp, Union are looking to continue their strong beginning to the pre-season following the successful seson opener last Thursday at Polish first division side Pogon Szczecin, which Union won 2-1 thanks to a late goal from Hannah Kratz.
