1. FC Union Berlin’s women’s first team squad left for their training camp on Friday morning, and will be in Spain until 27 January, preparing for the second half of a big Regionalliga Nordost season.
An early start
Head coach Ailien Poese’s team travelled to the airport in the early hours of the morning and flew to Alicante, changing planes in Madrid. Once there, they travelled on to the hotel in Campoamor.
After lunch, the Union players had a tour of the facilities and before completing their first fitness session. Following a few runs, the programme included mobility exercises and a rondo game. The first day ended with dinner together.
Costa Blanca
The settlement in the southernmost district of the province of Alicante is probably still well remembered by many Union players, as the Bundesliga squadalso completed their winter training camp here in January 2023. The region is also known as the Costa Blanca – the “White Coast”. With an average temperature of 14 degrees in January, the region offers ideal conditions for intensive preparation.
Outlook
In the coming days, all focus will be trained onto their first match of the new calendar year as, on Tuesday evening, Union face Spanish third division team Elche CF, before taking on the Swiss side, Grasshopper Zurich on Friday afternoon. Both matches will take place on the training pitch in Campoamor. The following day, the Union delegation will return to Köpenick.
