1. FC Union Berlin will go up against Ukrainian champions Dynamo Kiev at the club’s pre-season training camp in Austria.

Urs Fischer’s side arrived in Tirol on Monday and will prepare for two matches against elite opposition ahead of the Bundesliga return in August. On Friday July 23 at 17:00, Union will take on Dynamo Kiev at the ground of SV Kematen. At 16:00 the following day, Union will play French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice at the Velly Arena.

Under the management of Mircea Lucescu, Dynamo Kiev won their first Ukrainian league title in four years. Dynamo are a household name of Eastern European football, winning 16 titles since the break-up of the Soviet Union and lifting the Ukrainian Cup 13 times. In the 1970s, Dynamo Kiev won the European Cup Winners Cup twice and the UEFA Super Cup in 1975.

But the 1990s were the glory days for Dynamo Kiev under legendary manager Valeriy Lobanovskyi, who won 33 trophies during his career. Despite domination in Ukraine, Dynamo Kiev struggled in European football until Lobanovskyi’s third spell at the club. In 1999, a side inspired by Andriy Shevchenko got to the semi-finals of the Champions League. Shevchenko signed for AC Milan in 1999 and the rest is history.

Further information about capacity and tickets will be announced later in the week.
