After two games in Luckenwalde and in Hungary, the opponents for the first kick off in the Alte Försterei before the coming season have been announced. 1. FC Union Berlin will play against the Viennese Austrian record champions SK Rapid on 19.07.2023. Kick off is at 18:15.
Record Champions in fallow times
SK Rapid have won the Austrian championship 32 times. With only two exceptions (both times when they came in 5th place), the Viennese club have never finished worse than third in the league. Their most recent title, however, was back in 2008, largely because in 2005 SV Austria Salzburg became RB Salzburg, and they have won the title 14 times since then.
But they are not just a club with a golden history, for Union to play a friendly against Rapid is also a very special occasion for captain Christopher Trimmel. Having played one year in the reserves he stepped up to Rapid’s first team, representing them from 2008 to 2014. In total, the 36-year-old played 199 games in the Austrian capital, scoring 29 times with a further 23 assists.
