Union find out group stage draw

1. FC Union Berlin will play Slavia Prague, Feyenoord and Maccabi Haifa in the group stages of the inaugral UEFA Europa Conference League after today’s draw in Istanbul.

With a 4-0 win over Finland’s KuPS, Union confirmed qualification for the group stages on Thursday night at the Olympic Stadium.

Urs Fischer’s side were drawn with Czech champions Slavia Prague who reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League last season, losing out to Arsenal. The team of former Union striker Petar Musa started their European campaign in the UEFA Champions League but suffered elimination to Ferencvaros befoe going out of the Europa League to Legia Warsaw this week.

Union will welcome historic Dutch club Feyenoord to Berlin in the coming months. The club from Rotterdam have an illustrious history, winning 15 Dutch league titles and 13 national cups. Feyenoord have played over 200 games in European tournaments, winning the European Cup in 1970 and the UEFA Cup in 1974 and 2002.

The Israeli champions Maccabi Haifa will join Group E alongside Slavia, Feyenoord and Union. Maccabi Haifa have won their domestic league 13 times and have competed twice in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League — 2003 and 2010.
