1. FC Union Berlin are loaning Aljoscha Kemlein to FC St. Pauli, the second-placed team in the 2. Bundesliga for the next six months, while the home-grown talent has put the ink on a new contract at Union.
From the academy to the pros
The midfielder has been playing for Union since 2016, finally making the leap to the first team this season, but the young Berliner had already trained with them during his time in the U19s where he had become an integral part of the squad. Kemlein made his debut on the first day of the 2023/24 season against 1. FSV Mainz 05, coming on as a substitute in the closing stages. The 19-year-old also picked up further minutes in the following matches against Darmstadt and memorably in the UEFA Champions League against Real Madrid.
“Aljoscha is a very talented young player who has been able to develop enormously in recent months,” said Union’s director of men’s professional football, Oliver Ruhnert, on the loan deal, and his contract extension. “That’s why we’re also counting on his abilities in the future. After his debuts in the Bundesliga and Champions League, we also want to give him the opportunity to continue to gain more match practice. We naturally hope that Aljoscha can and will make the best possible use of his time at FC St. Pauli.”
