1. FC Union Berlin and REWE are extending their partnership, with an expansion of their current commitment – from premium to the new top sponsor – with a contract until 2025. The company have already cooperated with the club since winter 2020. At that time, the partners released a joint sticker album under the motto “Wir werden ewig kleben” (a play on words, taken from the “wir werden ewig leben”, or “we will live forever” from Union’s hymn, that became “We will stick forever”), which Unioners can still look back at today to reminisce about the promotion season.
“At the start of the new season, we are taking our commitment to 1. FC Union Berlin up a notch. Our cooperation began three years ago. First there was the sticker album, then the support for professional men’s football, but above all for youth work and sports promotion. Everything is on an equal footing, and we are all very happy to be at the side of the club,” said Stefan Hörning, Chairman of the REWE Ost Management Board, commenting on the extension.
Since joining as a sponsor, the company has also acted as a retail partner with the Union-Zeughaus in various stores in the south-eastern Berlin area. REWE store manager Mike Baer from Berlin commented: “We store managers can feel the enthusiasm for the club in the region in our supermarkets. It’s fantastic that we’re walking this exciting path ahead together with 1. FC Union Berlin.”
Jan Boysen, Managing Director of Marketing and Sales at 1. FC Union Berlin said meanwhile, “The cooperation with REWE over the last three years has developed exceptionally and goes far beyond mere brand visibility. In addition to the support in the sporting areas of professional and amateur football, we have also been able to successfully implement various social projects in close cooperation with our foundation. We are therefore all the more pleased about the contract extension for another two years.”
