1. FC Union Berlin have signed 18-year-old defender Oluwaseun Ogbemudia to a professional contract. Born in Bremen, “Olu” came through the youth ranks at FC St. Pauli up to the U-17s before joining the club’s senior squad in the summer of 2023.
Permanent Addition to Professional’s Training
The right-footer has played 19 competitive matches for the oldest youth team at 1. FC Union Berlin, including five appearances in the UEFA Youth League. Ogbemudia was also called up to the U-18’s squad of the German national team last November, playing in two matches.
During the preparations for the current season, the 6’1” defender took part in the summer training camps in Austria and Neuruppin with Union’s first team squad. He completed the entire Bundesliga pre-season under the guidance of Bo Svensson, also getting plenty further experience under his belt as he appeared in most of the friendlies.
Views on the signing
“I am of course very grateful for the trust that the club and those responsible have placed in me and I am looking forward to continuing to be part of the planning,” said Ogbemudia on the signing of his contract. “I am happy to accept this challenge and will do my best to be successful and develop myself further every day.”
Horst Heldt, Union’s director of men’s professional football, meanwhile had this to say. “Oluwaseun has proven his strengths many times in his time with us so far and we are firmly convinced that his potential is far from exhausted. We are therefore particularly pleased that he sees his future at 1. FC Union Berlin.”
